FAQ
What is Autimelody?
Autimelody is an assistive communication app that uses music (audigrams) to help individuals with language and communication difficulties better understand daily tasks and interactions.
How does it work?
The app pairs short melodies (audigrams) with specific activities or instructions — for example, taking medication or preparing for a doctor’s visit. Users learn to associate these tunes with particular actions, making communication clearer and more intuitive.
Who can benefit from Autimelody?
Anyone with communication challenges, including children and adults with autism, intellectual disabilities, or speech-language delays. It can also assist caregivers, teachers, therapists, and family members. Want to help us figure out who else is suited – contact us!
Can the melodies be customized?
The app’s first version comes with a library of pre-made audigrams. Future versions will aim to include customizable options, allowing users or caregivers to create personal melodies for their needs.
: Is the app available in different languages?
Currently, the app uses musical cues that are language-independent. Future updates will include support for caregivers to select interface languages. The current language access is Dutch and English.
What inspired Autimelody?
The app was inspired by Alice Haywood’s experience with her sister, who has Kleefstra syndrome. Alice’s mother noticed that while her sister struggled with verbal communication, she responded well to music — which led to the idea for Autimelody. Read more about it in the blog!
On which devices is Autimelody available?
The app is currently in development for iOS and Android devices. As it is web-based you can currently use it in any browser, and create a shortcut to your home-page.
How do I get support if I encounter an issue?
You can contact the Autimelody team through the contact information provided info@autimelody.com and one of our team members will get back to you.
